THE 2011 SEASON

HAS KICKED OFF!

A Message From The League's Director

The 2011 season has started!  What a powerful start to the new season. Lots of tremendous talent - both young and older. Your favorite playground, high school, college, international, professional and former professional players all under one roof.  All these men professing the FIVE TENANTS OF FAITH.

You must come experience Brother's Keepers at least once before your summer is over.  A safe environment for young and old who come together in fellowship with each other. Come to our fellowship and more than likely a serious basketball game will break out!

To witness some of the best hoops and hoopers in town come to Farview Community Center - 29th St & Lyndale Ave North.

Just a reminder...no games on Saturday, May 28th - Memorial Day weekend.

What is the Brother's Keeper Men's Network?

The Brother's Keeper Men's Network is an urban based interdenominational and international men's network founded by Dr. Rufus Thibodeaux.  BKMN has chapters in Chicago; Detroit; Denver; London; Nigeria, Africa as well as the home chapter in Minneapolis.   BKMN empowers men of all ethnic and economic backgrounds to:

  • build healthy relationships with other men,
  • engage in respectable interactions with their families
  • and emerge as stable leaders in their communities.

One of the ways we accomplish this is through our BKMN Summer Basketball League. Since 1994, about 2000 men have participated in our league. The League is characterized by its standards of non-violent language and behavior. A high level of family participation, including parents, grandparents, children, and extended family is prevalent at each weekly game. About 300 men participate on a weekly basis. BKMN collaborates with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board for game sites.  BKMN is highly regarded for its positive influence in the community.

We are currently in our sixteenth year of the BKMN Basketball League.

Our empowerment goals for men are also accomplished through services we provide, such as:

  • childcare,
  • domestic abuse intervention,
  • anger management,
  • chemical dependency support and aftercare.
